Mail Flow Rule: Financial Warning

This feature, a subset of the Microsoft Automated Allowlisting integration set, will add a banner to the top of all end-user emails that include certain keywords.

After consenting to the Microsoft Automated Allowlisting integration, you will be presented with a page that gives you two options. The first is the ability to "Start Allowlist," which should have already started automatically upon providing consent to connect the integration.

The second option is to "Create Mail Flow Rule" in the page's Financial Warning Mail Flow Rule section.

After clicking this button, the process can take 1 - 3 minutes to give feedback on whether the rule was successfully added.

If it fails, usually running it again will resolve the issue. If failures continue, please reach out to our support team by submitting a support ticket.

When it succeeds, we suggest following these steps to validate and test the new banner.

  1. Log into https://admin.exchange.microsoft.com/#/
  2. Navigate to Mail flow > Rules
  3. You should see a rule named "Financial Warning Banner by Phin" with the following configuration (Priority is dependent upon previously configured rules)
  4. Send an email to yourself or any other email address you want to test within the associated Outlook tenant that uses the following keywords in the subject or body of the email:
    • bank account
    • payment information
    • payment details
    • update payment
  5. The email address that receives the email you sent for testing should have a banner that says (see image below):
    • [IMPORTANT WARNING] The following message appears to reference financial related information. DO NOT CLICK links or attachments unless you recognize the sender and know the content is safe.
